The Full Story

Louw & Company
The Initial Challenge

Starting with a vision to empower SMEs through working capital in return for profit shares, Louw & Company faced its fair share of early hurdles. With a foundational team of just two,  the company operated from a modest setup that was basic at best.

This situation underscored a clear need: the company required a versatile team member who could oversee various operational aspects, freeing founder, Andrew Louw to focus on strategic growth. This led to the recruitment of Penny Hall (pH Balance) in February 2018.

Strategic Implementation

Penny embraced a multifaceted role, common in small businesses, that covered various domains, playing a crucial role in the company's expansion:

Office Management: She improved the work environment, addressing both the physical office space and the team's needs, example being visa arrangements for international staff.

Policy and Procedure Development: Penny was instrumental in crafting key company policies, example being successfully navigating an audit from the Dept of Labour.

Financial Management: She worked closely with the accounting team to manage finances efficiently, examples being managing bills, paying salaries, and organising financial paperwork.

Talent Acquisition: Her efforts in onboarding new staff and team building and management bolstered the company’s capabilities.

Operational Support: Penny provided invaluable support in research and project evaluations, supporting channel and company origination,  examples being assistance in research, due diligence, and site visits for prospect evaluation.

Client Relations and Networking: Through her networking, she raised significant capital from new investors for the company and fostered strong client relationships.

Event Planning and Personal Assistance: Her role extended to organizing company events and supporting the Louw family, enhancing the company's community spirit.

Results & Impact

‘’Penny from pH Balance was a transformative addition to Louw & Company. She brought not only her expertise and network but also her own furniture, symbolizing her commitment and the start of a new era for the company. Under her influence, the firm experienced a dramatic growth in deployed capital, increasing it nearly 20-fold. This growth was a direct result of the structure, support, and balance Penny provided. Her biggest contribution, however, was in the positive energy and balance she brought to the office, which was crucial for the firm's morale and overall success. “    -    Dr Andrew Louw
